Jay Bruce of the Cincinnati Reds Takes a Swing for Those at Home

Jay Bruce, Cincinnati Reds outfielder, has hit 18 homeruns so far this season. The biggest swing he’ll take, however, is during the Jay Bruce Golf Benefit and Tournament this November.

Bruce’s older sister, Kellan, has intellectual and developmental disabilities, which inspired Bruce to create the golf benefit in 2010.

Although his playing career has brought him to Cincinnati, Bruce keeps close ties to his family and his home in Beaumont, Tex. He has partnered with The Arc of Greater Beaumont, an organization dedicated to promoting the success of individuals like Kellan. The Arc of Greater Beaumont supports the Life Skills department at Beaumont West Brook High School, where Kellan received much of her education.

Each year since its inception, the Jay Bruce Golf Benefit has raised funds to benefit  individuals in Southeast Texas.

The Golf Benefit will be held November 14 at the Bayou Din Golf Club in Beaumont. Fans can register to participate individually or as a team of four. The event will include free food and beverages, as well as contests for the longest drive, closest to the pin and hole in one.

While many of Bruce's fans and friends will attempt to win the fun contests at the Golf Benefit, the real winners are those who receive the support from the funds raised that day.
