Making Sarah's Dreams a Reality

By Jori Victor, Senior Marketing Manager – AT&T

Last Thursday, I was covered in paint, sweaty, smelly, and a true sight for sore eyes but none of that bothered me, because I had a day that was fulfilling on the deepest level. My colleagues and I built a home for Sarah.

Thanks to a new collaboration between Habitat for Humanity and AT&T Digital Life, we were able to help make her dreams of owning a home a reality. Sarah will be the first person in her family to EVER own a home. She will now have a safe place to raise her family, and that is powerful beyond words. So, you can see why, despite my physical appearance, I had one of my best days ever as an AT&T employee. I was so proud to be a part of the AT&T Digital Life ® team and I was not alone as 40 of my colleagues came out for the build.

“I had a blast helping out with the Habitat project,” said my colleague, David Nuber, Field Operations - Digital Life. “You always have it in the back of your mind that AT&T is out there doing great things for the community. Yesterday put me smack-dab in the middle of that effort. It makes me proud to be a part of AT&T and Digital Life!”

Community involvement is a personal passion, but it also really makes business sense for our brand. Not only were we able to help Sarah build her home, we also donated and set-up a Digital Life security system for her. Now she can use our technology to help keep her family safe. With this peace of mind, Sarah can focus on her job, her family and her community involvement.

I am so grateful for the support of our leadership and my colleagues that made our relationship with Habitat for Humanity a reality. This collaboration will result in five Habitat for Humanity and Digital Life builds across the country in 2014. Additionally, Digital Life will donate $10,000 at each build towards the construction of the new home, and $100,000 to Habitat for Humanity International. So be on the lookout for some more paint-covered and smelly employees with big smiles on their faces at our four remaining builds in Dallas, Los Angeles, New York and Seattle!

It is true, AT&T’s commitment to outreach means giving and connecting person to person. In this case, it enabled us to make a young woman’s dreams a reality.
