December 31, 2015 /3BL Media/ - Forest City’s The Mall at Robinson was recently recognized as a Pittsburgh Green Workplace Challenge winner by Sustainable Pittsburgh, a local organization that promotes economic prosperity, social equity and environmental quality.

The award was given as part of a year-long competition for businesses, nonprofits, municipalities and universities to track and measure improvements in energy, water, waste and transportation. The Mall at Robinson earned 507 points, tops among medium-sized businesses and more than double the second-place finisher’s total.

“As part of Forest City’s corporate social responsibility efforts, we’ve developed an internal sustainability roadmap for our property that guides how we work every day,” said Beth Edwards, property manager, The Mall at Robinson. “While we are proud of our efforts, we are always working to institute new programs designed to decrease our carbon footprint, reduce waste, conserve natural resources, reduce our usage of energy and improve the bottom line.”

Fifty employers from throughout southwestern Pennsylvania completed the competition, which began in October 2014 and ended on October 31 of this year.

Competitors earned varying point values for each documented “green action” performed. The Mall at Robinson received points for 46 approved actions, which included the installation of motion sensors and the replacement of existing light bulbs with CFL or LED bulbs that substantially improve lighting efficiency and energy reductions. Points were also awarded for the achievement of energy and water reduction goals for the year.

“Congrats to The Mall at Robinson team for receiving this prestigious and deserved honor,” said Jill Ziegler, Forest City’s director of Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility. “Actions at the property level, such as those performed by the team at The Mall at Robinson, help us realize our companywide corporate sustainability goals, improving the overall performance of our portfolio.”

All winners received special awards made from reclaimed materials, provided by partners through the Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse. They also participated in a panel discussion and a question-and-answer session to reflect on their experiences and share strategies for achieving their sustainability goals.

“The Mall at Robinson’s management team has a proven track record of continually improving their sustainable performance in innovative ways, earning multiple recognitions for their tireless efforts,” Ziegler said. “I’m thankful for their continued dedication and willingness to lead by example.”
