FORT MCMURRAY, AB, June 16, 2016 /3BL Media/ - Thanks to the enthusiastic response to Scotiabank MacDonald Island Summer Camps, Scotiabank (TSX: BNS) (NYSE: BNS) and the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC) are pleased to announce they are expanding the camps so more kids can enjoy the programs for free this summer.

Beginning July 4, there will be an additional 50 spots available for each week of the Scotiabank MacDonald Island Summer Camps, bringing the total spots at the McDonald Island location to 150 each week and 1,350 over the summer.

These added spots are made possible by Scotiabank support, which is allowing the camp to hire more councillors, providing much needed summer jobs for young people in the area.

"When the first Scotiabank MI Camps session sold out, we worked with our partners at the RRC to see how more kids could take part in camp, allowing parents more time to focus on getting their lives back to normal," said Laurie Stang, Scotiabank Regional Senior Vice President, Prairie Region. "We believe in the importance of supporting young people who are the future of this community. Scotiabank knows the youth who will be joining as councillors will do a great job in providing a memorable experience for all the campers. We are also looking forward to taking the Scotiabank camps to Anzac to support another great community."

Due to a partnership with Scotiabank, this summer's camps at the Anzac Recreation Centre presented by Nexen Energy will also be free. Scotiabank MI Summer Camps in Anzac are week-long day camps where kids ages 3-12 can make new friends and enjoy great activities like team sports, swimming, treasure hunts, crafts and storytelling. There are 270 available camp spots in Anzac for kids (30 spots per week).

"We are so pleased to share the news of these additional camp spots at MacDonald Island Park in addition to the free camps taking place at Anzac Recreation Centre presented by Nexen Energy this summer," said Annette Antoniak, Chief Executive Officer of the RRC. "We would also like to remind community residents that registration for the second session of summer camps at MacDonald Island Park, which runs from August 2-September 2, will begin on July 18 and provide another opportunity for children to attend camp for free this summer thanks to the support of Scotiabank."

Due to the interest in the Scotiabank MI Summer Camps for the additional spots in the first session, the RRC will be contacting families on the wait list to invite their child to enjoy one week at the camp. If there are additional availabilities, the RRC will get back in touch with families about kids attending the camp for additional weeks. When registering for the second session at MacDonald Island Park beginning on July 18, camp participants will be limited to registration for 2 weeks of camp at a time per child, allowing more children in the community to enjoy the Scotiabank MI Summer Camp experience.
