NEW YORK, July 16, 2014 /3BL Media/ – Morgan Stanley announced that Morgan Stanley Healthy Oakland, part of Morgan Stanley’s innovative Healthy Cities program, today will provide nutritious lunches, health screenings and wellness education to underprivileged children at the Martin Luther King Jr. Library in Oakland, Calif.  Partnering with Alameda County Community Food Bank, an organization that has been at the forefront of hunger relief efforts in the Bay Area for nearly 30 years, Morgan Stanley is engaging a network of health providers, libraries and schools, along with community and employee volunteers, to deliver a series of food and health programming to the Oakland community.

Launched in June, Healthy Cities is designed to create linked systems of wellness education and screenings, nutritious foods and safe play spaces for children in neighborhoods in need.  In addition to the efforts in Oakland, Healthy Cities is operating in Chicago and Newark, N.J., to deliver integrated children’s health programming.

“Morgan Stanley’s longstanding commitment to children’s health and the communities we serve is the driving force behind the development of the innovative Healthy Cities program.  By partnering with key organizations within the community who are reaching at-risk populations, we are working to help enhance their efforts and provide solutions that deliver improved benefit to the community,” said Joan Steinberg, Global Head of Philanthropy.  “Alameda County Community Food Bank is a natural partner for Morgan Stanley Healthy Oakland, and we are looking forward to bringing together additional key community partners and our employee volunteers to supply nutrition and health programming for the Oakland community.”

Morgan Stanley will be supporting programming provided by Alameda County Community Food Bank and partner organizations in the Oakland community including summer food programs to bridge the summer meal gap for children of low-income families, expanded school-based mobile pantries, enhanced nutrition education initiatives, and health screening and promotion.  The Morgan Stanley Healthy Oakland network this year will provide 128,000 healthy meals, health screenings and health fairs for over 300 children, and health, nutrition and wellness information for over 750 students.  The program will also provide safe play spaces for children through Morgan Stanley’s national partnership with KaBOOM!, and Morgan Stanley employees will lend over 2,000 volunteer hours to support the initiatives in Oakland.

The Healthy Cities initiative builds on Morgan Stanley’s Global Alliance for Children’s Health, a commitment that has invested in innovations in pediatric care so that more children can get the healthy start they need for consistent and meaningful achievement in life.  The flagship of the Global Alliance efforts is the Firm’s 40-year relationship with the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian.  More recently, Morgan Stanley created partnerships with international hospitals, including the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and Beijing Children's Hospital.  Morgan Stanley employees play a critical role, lending expertise, financial support and sweat equity to benefit children’s centers across the globe.
