Waltham, Mass., June 26, 2015 /3BL Media/ – National Grid  issued a statement today in acknowledgment of the Supreme Court ruling that the Constitution guarantees a right to same-sex marriage. In a 5 to 4 decision, Justice Anthony M. Kennedy wrote the majority opinion, stating that gay and lesbian couples had a fundamental right to marry.

“At National Grid, we applaud this landmark ruling of the US Supreme Court, affirming the right to marriage for same-sex couples,” said Dean Seavers, president of National Grid US. “I am so pleased to celebrate the good news with our LGBT community of employees, customers, and stakeholders. Congrats to all who helped, even in small ways, to advance this important legal right.”

Seavers added that National Grid has long been committed to creating policies on diversity and inclusion. The company provides same sex domestic partner benefits, covers sexual orientation and gender identity in its Equal Employment Opportunity policies and supports an employee resource group called PRIDE through which the company's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) employees host meetings, provide community outreach and serve as a resource to the company and its employees.
