WINDER, GA., April 25, 2015 /3BL Media/ – Camp Twin Lakes and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta installed a new, fully accessible walking trail at Camp Twin Lakes (CTL)-Will-A-Way, thanks to funding from UnitedHealthcare generated through its participation in CBS EcoMedia’s WellnessAd program.

To celebrate the 0.6-mile trail’s grand opening, Camp Twin Lakes and Children’s hosted a volunteer project, where volunteers from UnitedHealthcare put the finishing touches on the trail by adding new plants and mulch, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“Thanks to Camp Twin Lakes, many Children’s patients are able to experience the fun and excitement of a true summer camp, and UnitedHealthcare’s support of this new walking trail will enhance that experience,” said Stephanie Walsh, M.D., Medical Director, Child Wellness at Children’s. “We know good nutrition and physical activity are critical to the well-being of all children, and promoting healthy habits to campers along the trail is a great way to extend the reach of Strong4Life to more of our patients and families.”

The trail will also feature six colorful Strong4Life trail signs, which will serve as teaching stations to encourage kids to play and promote the benefits of eating fruits and vegetables.

Camp Twin Lakes provides life-changing camp experiences to children with serious illnesses, disabilities and other health challenges. UnitedHealthcare, Children’s and EcoMedia previously built an Active Living Trail at Little Nancy Creek Park in Atlanta in 2012.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to support Camp Twin Lakes and work with Children’s by increasing campers’ access to programs and activities at CTL-Will-A-Way,” said Garland Scott, CEO, UnitedHealthcare Carolinas and Georgia.

“A core objective of our WellnessAd Program is to help children develop more active and healthier lifestyles,” said Paul Polizzotto, President and Founder of CBS EcoMedia. “We’re thankful to UnitedHealthcare for their support of the new walking trail for campers at CTL-Will-A-Way.”

This project is the latest in UnitedHealthcare’s “Do Good. Live Well.” employee volunteer initiative, whose mission is to inspire service and encourage volunteerism.
