A New Year…A New Healthy Lifestyle!

Jan 13, 2015 9:00 AM ET

For many, the New Year is about resolutions, and this year is no different! According to Twitter Canada, the top resolutions tweeted for 2015 include working out, being happy and losing weight. In a poll conducted by Insights West, an astounding 71% of British Columbians are focusing on improving their physical well-being in 2015 by losing weight, eating healthier, quitting smoking or playing sports.

As we start settling into January, the outlook for fulfilling these resolutions seems promising – there’s plenty of talk about eating healthier and gyms have become more crowded. However, Insights West found that only 50% of those who make resolutions end up keeping them.

Are you looking to improve your health and wellness for 2015? Achieving your goal is indeed possible! The key is actually quite simple: committing to a lifestyle change and not just doing things for a few months because you said you would. One great way to eat healthier is to incorporate fish, such as salmon, into your meal plan twice a week. You can even change things up by experimenting with a variety of recipes.

According to dietitian Patricia Chuey, “healthy eating should be pretty easy. It’s less about discipline and more about choosing food that provides the fuel to leave you feeling great.” Not only is salmon a healthy, lean source of protein but it is high in Omega-3s and has numerous health benefits, including reducing the risk of heart disease, stroke, Alzheimer’s, and autoimmune diseases (arthritis, Crohn’s, colitis and lupus). Eating salmon, and other fish, is good for your entire body and is recommended by health authorities as a regular part of your diet. By combining healthier eating with exercise you will be well on your way to achieve your health goals for the year, and for many years to come!
