Paris, June 17, 2016 /3BL Media/ -- At the fifth Deauville Green Awards 2016, an international festival of film productions promoting sustainable development and eco-innovations, Pernod Ricard received the silver award in the “Sustainable Production and Circular Economy” category for its film, “Bottled Hope Sabah”.  Out of 300 competing films from approximately 30 countries, the international jury sought to recognise Pernod Ricard Malaysia for its film about its initiative involving the rural Sabah community.

Through the production of this film, Pernod Ricard Malaysia wanted to increase awareness amongst both the general public and international authorities about the situation of this indigenous Malaysian inhabitants of one million people, who have no access to basic infrastructures.

Pernod Ricard Malaysia has created a long-term sustainable development programme to enable this isolated population to have access to lighting, thanks to the production and distribution of lamps made from empty glass bottles (http://www.bottledhope.com.my/brightbox.html). To date, 235 “Brightboxes”, which run on solar energy, have provided lighting to 2,000 inhabitants.

This is also an environmental initiative as it helps to raise awareness about the reuse of bottles of glass giving it a second lease of life.

On this occasion, Terence Ong, Managing Director of Pernod Ricard Malaysia, said, "This award will help us to make our initiative known to a wider audience and we hope to receive further contributions from our partners and from anyone wanting to make a donation to expand our programme.”

For André Hémard, VP CSR, "This is an excellent example of the commitment of our 18,000 “créateurs de convivialité” to Pernod Ricard’s local communities.”
