The generosity of MGM Resorts International employees has once again garnered special recognition.

The MGM Resorts Foundation was honored in September by Vegas Inc’s Angel Awards, as the Foundation of the Year. The annual Angel Awards are given to remarkable people and organizations in southern Nevada who make a difference in the charitable landscape of the local community. The awards were established to acknowledge and encourage the accomplishments and contributions of Vegas’ most outstanding community leaders.

“I’m very proud that our employees give so easily and so generously,” said Vice President of Philanthropy & Community Engagement Shelley Gitomer. “Some employees can become very vocal and become advocates for the organizations where they give money.”

Since 2002, the Foundation has raised more than $54 million for local nonprofits in Nevada, Michigan and Mississippi. This past year saw 51 percent of MGM Resorts employees contribute to local charities, and in the spring, more than $5 million was raised Companywide during the Foundation Campaign. This year, the Foundation has awarded 89 grants to nonprofits throughout our operating areas, all of which are determined by the employee-run Community Grants Council.

“Employees come together many times and are very meticulous in deciding where that money goes in the community,” said Ms. Gitomer. “That’s one of the things I’m proudest of when I look at the Foundation.”
