ROME, October 2, 2015 /3BL Media/ - In the effort to advance the fight against post-harvest loss the First International Congress on Postharvest Loss Prevention will convene in Rome, Italy October 4-7. Harry Pastuszek, Vice President of Enterprise and Community Development for PYXERA Global, will present on the Global Initiatives for Reducing Post-harvest Losses panel.

“The problem with post-harvest loss is that producing more food is not the answer,” said Mr. Pastuzek, “we need to focus on how to properly store and transfer food so more, ideally all of it, can get to the consumer. Tactics to effectively combat post-harvest loss need to be shared, discussed, and replicated in order to create a noticeable impact.”

The international conference is set to highlight the very real challenges post-harvest loss creates, particularly in relation to global hunger and share insights on how to combat, measure, and decrease post-harvest loss. This conference is a platform for private, public, and social sector organizations to exchange success stories and challenges to create solutions to the post-harvest loss problem the world faces today.

40% of all fruits and vegetables are lost in substandard storage or transit, or left on the farm, in what is called post-harvest loss. Pastuszek’s recent article in The New Global Citizen addresses the problem of post-harvest loss and discusses the type of solutions needed to salvage more of the crops grown in developing areas.
