July 30, 2014 /3BL Media/ - UPS® has released its 12th annual Sustainability Report available at http://www.ups.com/sustainability. In this latest report, UPS is announcing that in addition to reducing overall carbon emissions in 2013, the company also met its 2016 goal of reducing its air and ground fleet's carbon intensity by 10 percent three years early. Thus, the company has set a new goal to achieve a 20 percent reduction in carbon intensity from transportation by 2020.

The report outlines the company's "Committed to More™" approach to sustainability, highlighting the continued achievement of the company's greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goals as well as the measureable impact from its humanitarian initiatives.

UPS's 2013 sustainability achievements include:

  • Pioneering the new Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G4 guidelines and becoming one of the first companies in the United States to report in accordance at the "Comprehensive" level
  • Delivering more goods for its customers while reducing absolute carbon emissions for the second year in a row
  • Logging more than 55 million miles in its alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles, well on its way to achieve its goal of 1 billion miles driven by the end of 2017
  • Rolling out innovative technologies like ORION route optimization, which helps improve service to customers while reducing the environmental impact of delivering goods
  • Helping global communities become more resilient with US$7.5 million in humanitarian relief across 46 countries
  • Delivering on its promise to plant 1.3 million trees by September of 2013, and pledging to plant another million in 2014
  • Achieving total charitable contributions of $102 million, close to our 2016 goal of $103 million
