GAITHERSBURG, Md. September 15, 2016 /3BL Media/ – Sodexo, world leader in Quality of Life Services, is once again the top-rated company in its sector on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), giving the group 12 consecutive years of recognition in Corporate Responsibility. Sodexo was also ranked the number one consumer services companies for the third year in a row, reinforcing the success of Sodexo’s global commitments to sustainability.

This year, Sodexo’s scores far exceeded the industry average in all three dimensions of evaluation—economic, environmental and social—making the company a leader in sustainability trends in the restaurant and leisure sector. That success is due in no small part to many great achievements the company has had in its North American operations to include:

  • Sourcing local and seasonal produce from 1,400 farms within the same state and region where it is served
  • Advancing industry-leading commitments to animal welfare, sustainable seafood and health and well-being
  • Facilitating large-scale reduction in organic and non-organic waste, including diverting more than 1 million pounds of pre-consumer food waste from landfills

“With global operations in 80 countries around the world serving clients at more than 32,000 sites Sodexo has a tremendous opportunity and responsibility not only to reduce its own environmental footprint and to support local communities where it operates, it also has the expertise and capability to assist its clients and customers to accelerate their sustainability achievements,” said Ted Monk, vice president sustainability and corporate responsibility, Sodexo.

The DJSI, an index series administered by RobecoSAM, is a global benchmark that informs sustainability investors of the world’s leading companies based on their performances in economic, environmental, and social sustainability practices. Thousands of industry leading companies across the globe are invited each year to partake in an assessment which thoroughly evaluates practices in categories such as environmental policy and management systems, supply chain management, talent attraction and retention, fair wage and labor conditions, and local impact of business operations.

RobecoSAM has been in partnership with Dow Jones Sustainability Indices since 1999, providing the most sophisticated and trusted measurements for sustainability investors. The results of the Corporate Sustainability Assessments are returned to investors to advise on risk & return objectives.
