The Sanofi Foundation for North America Stands in Solidarity with Orlando

The recent mass shooting at Pulse—a popular Orlando Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) nightclub and safe space—killed and wounded more than 100 people, and left our nation in shock.  This tragedy is a stark reminder of the terrifying violence LGBT communities can face on a daily basis.

As a demonstration of solidarity, Sanofi employees at its U.S. headquarters in Bridgewater, NJ, including members of the PRIDE Connect Employee Resource Group, held a moment of silence to remember the lives of the victims of the PULSE nightclub massacre. 

Through collaboration and cooperation with multiple departments including Human Resources, Communications, Occupational Health and Corporate Social Responsibility, the PRIDE Connect team honored the lives lost and affected by this unspeakable act. As employees gathered in solidarity, they were reminded that each name had a story, and despite our unique differences, the themes of family, friendship, community and love transcends all, and bonds each of us together within this human experience.  

“We are here today so that those lives lost are not in vain. . . so that we can remember. . . so that we can make a difference. . .be kind to one another,” shared Scott Harris, head, Third Party Quality Management and PRIDE Connect leadership team member.

The Sanofi Foundation for North America will donate $5,000 to the OneOrlando Fund, a non-profit organization created by the mayor of Orlando to meet the needs of the victims, their families and the communities affected by this tragedy. 

“The call to action to provide emotional and financial support to the victim’s families while bringing together our Sanofi team to stand united and in support of our values, our culture and our people has sent a powerful message. I am humbled and proud to be a part of such a wonderful and diverse Sanofi community,” said Doug McLeester, vice president, head of Sanofi Business Services.

Signs of solidarity for LGBT inclusion and equality were recognized throughout Sanofi North America during the month of June—PRIDE Month.  Outside of the Sanofi Pasteur Toronto corporate office, two rainbow PRIDE flags were raised to honor the organization’s commitment to diversity, inclusion and honor the progress of the LGBT community.
