(3BL Media) San Francisco, CA – March 5, 2012 – Internships and real-world experience continue to be a valued component in the competitive job market.  For the third year, the Sierra Club, the largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization, is making it possible for college students and recent grads to experience the real world by way of the Best Internship on Earth.

The Best Internship on Earth is an annual summer program uniting young adults with a passion for the environment with community outreach programs that focus on outdoor experiences.  The young adult selected as the 2012 Outdoor Youth Ambassador will travel around the country with Sierra Club’s Mission Outdoors programs, and document these experiences for the Sierra Club and The North Face.

Past itineraries have included marching in the Puerto Rican Day Parade, attending First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move Outside event on the White House Great Lawn, backpacking in Southern California in the San Jacinto Mountains with Inner City Outings, attending a family event sponsored by Military Families and Veterans Initiative, and surveying ancient artifacts on an archeological dig during a service trip in Utah.

The more time young people spend in nature, the stronger their commitment to protect the environment; a 2011 poll from the Nature Conservancy shows that 66% of youth report having a personal experience in nature that made them appreciate it more.  When not rafting down the American River or participating at the Outdoor National Youth Summit, the Outdoor Youth Ambassador will work with Sierra Club Productions in San Francisco, CA to review, cut and edit video blogs, chronicling their journey and promoting an appreciation of nature through outdoor education and adventure.

The ideal candidate is passionate about the environment and being outside; open to new experiences; a skilled storyteller; experienced with video software and production; and highly engaged with their online community.  To apply, students and recent graduates over the age of 18 must submit a video clip (60-90 seconds) showcasing their love for the outdoors and why they want to intern with the Sierra Club.  In addition to a stipend and all-expenses paid travel, the winning intern also receives $2,000 worth of merchandise provided by The North Face, a hallmark brand for outdoor gear, apparel and footwear.
