TUI Group Launches Progress Against ‘Better Holidays, Better World’ Strategy

TUI Group, the world’s leading tourism business, today launched its latest Sustainability Report. Following on from the launch of last year’s ‘Better Holidays, Better World’ sustainability strategy, this report tracks TUI Group’s progress in the first year of its ambitious 2015 – 2020 plan. TUI Group is committed to managing its impacts on the economy, society and environment, as well as leading the way in understanding, improving and innovating for sustainable tourism.
 
The strategy includes ambitions by 2020, to cut the carbon intensity of its airline, cruise and ground operations by a further 10%, deliver 10 million ‘greener and fairer’ holidays per year and invest €10 million per year to support good causes and enhance the positive impacts of tourism.
 
Highlights of the report include:

  • TUI airlines’ reduced relative CO2 emissions by 2.3% year on year. Now 66.0g of CO2 emissions per revenue passenger kilometre (RPK) – the most carbon-efficient airline in Europe
  • €63m saved through environment efficiencies between 2012 - 2015
  • 5.6m ‘greener and fairer’ holidays delivered through customers staying in hotels with credible sustainability certification
  • 68% of TUI Hotels & International Concepts achieved sustainability certifications, managing their socio-economic and environmental impacts
  • TUI Cruises latest ships are 30% more energy efficient than comparable ships
  • 500,000 customers enjoyed Collection excursions which have a special focus on sustainability
  • The TUI Care Foundation was adopted as a Group wide foundation to unite charitable and project activities
  • €5.4m raised by its businesses, colleagues and customers to support good causes and enhance the positive impacts of tourism
  • TUI scored 100% for CDP carbon reporting in the UK and Germany in 2015
