On Thursday, December 11, Time Warner Cable hosted its first Family Fun Night at the Imaginarium of South Texas. The Imaginairum is the only children’s STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) museum in Laredo. Our partnership provides families with free admission to the museum from 4-7 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month.

The partnership was created by Elise Longpree, Time Warner Cable’s community investment director for Texas. “This event is a ‘win-win’ for families in Laredo, the museum and TWC,” stated Sandra Cavazos, the Imaginarium’s executive director. “Free admission provides underserved families the opportunity to explore the museum and participate in hands-on STEM activities at no cost.”

More than 600 persons attended the inaugural celebration, which included exploring the museum’s interactive stations, such as Gears and Spheres, Construction Junction and a rock climbing wall. Several hands on STEM demonstrations were set up throughout the museum to engage families. Time Warner Cable employee volunteers greeted museum visitors and worked with children to create mini catapults. In addition, several Laredo community leaders stopped by to show their support. These included the publisher of the Laredo Morning Times, staff from the Laredo Convention and Visitors Bureau, Laredo City Council members and a special visit from Santa, complements of local country music station KRRG 98.1.

Family fun nights at the Imaginarium will continue on the second Thursday of each month throughout 2015.
