Video: SAP Decodes the Human Proteome

Jan 29, 2015 2:25 PM ET

Scientists from the Technical University in Munich and SAP have teamed up to generate a comprehensive map of protein across the human body. Using computer databases and the in-memory technology SAP HANA it's possible to put the protein molecules into context in order to find commonalities and differences. Examining the proteins of a cell could help to fight diseases like cancer, diabetes, dementia and others. An infected cell can be differentiated from a healthy cell by its protein presence and levels. By looking at these cancer cells, scientists learn what is happening and by understanding which proteins are no longer functioning properly, they hope in the future to design better treatments to kill these cancer cells.
