#WeRunThisCity: Bloomberg Square Mile Relay in Hong Kong

Nov 26, 2014 9:30 AM ET

1,000 runners from leading firms took to the streets of Central for Hong Kong’s inaugural Bloomberg Square Mile Relay. Under the city’s iconic skyscrapers, runners negotiated sharp turns and staircases with their baton to complete their mile in the fastest possible time. Team Macquarie Bank, the champions of the night, donated their winning prize of HK$80,000 to Sunshine Action, their preferred charity. Credit Suisse and Black Rock came in second and third place respectively, with Sam Fletcher from Bank of America Merrill Lynch clinching the title of fastest individual with a time of 00:04:38.

The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay is the ultimate corporate running race, where teams of 10 compete in a relay format. Hong Kong marks the second leg of the Series’ international expansion, after launching in Singapore last year.

“We are very happy to participate in the first Bloomberg Square Mile Relay in Hong Kong and obviously very happy to win the relay. We have been doing a lot of training before and after work by going on runs on Bowen Road to make sure that we know the course pretty well before coming down tonight,” said Evan Griffins, Captain of Team Macquarie Bank. “We’re looking forward to next year’s Bloomberg Square Mile Relay already”.
