Twenty-three Xylem Watermark volunteers traveled from France, Germany, Sweden, and the US to not only install household solar power and water filtration systems, but to also deploy nine AquaTowers in rural schools within Siem Reap and Preah Vihear provinces of Cambodia. Before these AquaTowers were built, the students drank untreated water directly from the well, which caused waterborne illnesses that impacted their school attendance and led to unaffordable medical expenses. Thanks to the hard work of this team, thousands of students are now able to drink clean water and wash their hands with soap while at school. In addition to building the towers, the volunteers also helped teach the students about germs and how they spread, along with how and when to wash their hands through activity-based lessons and games. The day ended in ceremony and celebration with the students and villagers anxiously waiting to take their first drink of clean water at the AquaTower.
