Is Your Fridge Ready? Get Ready to Chill This Summer!

Is your refrigerator ready for the busy summer season? Here are some simple tips to get your refrigerator in top shape for the summer months while saving food and energy costs.

  • Remove old or expired items.
    Check expiration dates of items especially condiments. Most condiments expire 6 months to a year after they have been opened. If the smell or color has changed it is probably safe to toss it.
  • Wipe down cavity.
    Remove refrigerator contents and wipe down interior components; remove shelves and clean w/ mild detergent in warm water.
  • Check water filter. If your refrigerator has a water filter, check the life and replace if needed.
  • Refresh Ice. Discard ice in ice bin, wash ice storage bin with mild detergent in warm water, rinse thoroughly and replace – allow 24 hours for ice maker to make new ice.
  • Check and clean refrigerator gaskets.
    check to make sure the seal is tight and there are no gaps.
  • Clean condenser coils.
