CONTENT: Press Release

Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Wednesday, June 23rd:

Ford Motor Company has published its 11th Sustainability Report for 2009/2010. Among the highlights are the expanded use of EcoBoost engines, which deliver up to 20 percent better fuel economy, and a commitment to introduce five new electric vehicles in Europe by 2013. In April, Ford announced its fourth consecutive quarterly profit and its largest pretax operating profit in six years. Ford’s Report follows the Global Reporting Initiative’s  G3 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines.

The European Union has established new rules that require biofuels to demonstrate that they deliver substantial cuts in greenhouse gas emissions. The biofuel components of the Renewable Energy Directive call on governments to set up independently verified certification programs. The programs ensure Euro biofuels deliver greenhouse gas savings of at least 35 percent compared with petrol and diesel. The new EU-wide sustainability standards are due to take effect by the end of this year.
