Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Thursday, June 24th:
Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide has announced a new green meetings program at each of its North American properties. Called Sustainable Meeting Practices, the new program has five main components, including paperless meeting planning, sustainable meeting services, and impact assessment tools. The five principles outline 18 specific practices to be incorporated into all meetings and events, from alternatives to bottled water to sustainable menu choices. Starwood’s program will roll out globally next year.
The Eastman Chemical Company has launched its first sustainability review to highlight recent accomplishments and establish future goals. Eastman’s sustainability program includes goals of 2.5 percent energy-efficient improvements annually and a 20 percent reduction in greenhouse gas over the next ten years. Last year, Eastman received the EPA’s Presidential Green Challenge Award for its green biocatalytic process.
