(3BL Media) Vancouver, Britiish Columbia - March 14, 2012 GLOBE Advisors (“GLOBE”) and its research partner, the Washington, D.C.-based Centre for Climate Strategies (“CCS”), have released the results of the West Coast Clean Economy Report, an extensive five-month study conducted by GLOBE and CCS on the potential for accelerated investment and job creation in the province of British Columbia and the states of California, Oregon, and Washington.

The report, commissioned by the Pacific Coast Collaborative (PCC), a partnership of the four above noted jurisdictions, indicates that the transition toward a cleaner economy is well underway throughout the West Coast region, accounting for a GDP contribution of US $47 billion and an estimated 508,400 full time equivalent (FTE) jobs in 2010.

The four West Coast jurisdictions form a mega-region with a population in excess of 50 million and a gross domestic product (GDP) of more than US $2.5 trillion that collectively constitutes the world’s sixth largest economy.

The analysis by GLOBE and CCS indicates that over the period from 2010 to 2020, the transition toward a cleaner economy could generate up to 1.03 million net new jobs, a GDP contribution of up to US $143 billion, and increased investments of between US $147-$192 billion. Essentially, for every one clean economy job in the West Coast region in 2010, an additional two jobs could be created by 2020.

The report analyzes five high growth market opportunity segments: Clean Energy Supply, Clean Transportation, Energy Efficiency & Green Building, Environmental Protection & Resource Management, and Knowledge & Support.

The report also highlights the benefits of increased regional collaboration, which will allow the leveraging of each jurisdiction’s strengths to create a strong, globally competitive market for clean economy products, technologies, and services.

The release of the Report coincides with the PCC Leaders Forum on March 13, which takes place on the eve of GLOBE 2012 in Vancouver, B.C.

GLOBE 2012, the biennial international conference and trade fair on ‘Business and the Environment’, runs from March 14 to 16 and is expected to draw some 10,000 people from 50 countries.
