(3BL Media) London & Rio de Janeiro - June 15, 2012 - The World Green Summit (WGS), June 20, 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, is the largest business, finance and government forum during the high-level segment of Rio+20. With more than 500 CEOs, financiers, and dignitaries, this inaugural event aims to be an annual high-level summit progressing sustainable development and the global green economy, by engaging business, finance, & government leaders to drive solutions for industries, cities, regions & nations.

Headlining speakers include: Sir Richard Branson, Founder, Virgin Group & Virgin Unite; Ted Turner, Chairman, United Nations Foundation; Helle Thorning-Schmidt, Prime Minister of Denmark; Connie Hedegaard, EU Commissioner for Climate Action and many more global leaders. Plenary sessions at WGS include: Sustainable Energy for All (in partnership with the United Nations Foundation and Sustainable Energy for All initiative); Sustainable Cities (in partnership with ICLEI); Rethinking the path towards sustainable development with finance & cleantech, and Green Icons-Building a Sustainable Future.

The World Green Summit will take place at the Government of Rio Pavilion in the Athlete’s Park, Rio de Janeiro. These two green media leaders specialise in producing world-class events, publications and web content. They have produced global, high-level events including the World Climate Summit (the largest business conference during the UNFCCC COP16 and COP17), the Climate Action Networking Reception (in partnership with UNEP)the Sustainable Innovation Expo (held exclusively at the annual Global Ministerial Environment Forum at UNEP Headquarters in Nairobi) and the co-organisation of the Global Green Growth Forum (3GF) in Copenhagen, Denmark.
