Smithfield Foods Contributes $60,000 to Bladen County Read and Feed Program
The Smithfield Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Smithfield Foods, Inc., announced today a donation of $60,000 to Bladen County Schools Foundation to fund the purchase of a new mobile van for the district’s “Read and Feed” program. The new mobile unit will deliver to more than 4,000 students throughout Bladen County to ensure they have access to free meals and literacy programs that would otherwise be unavailable during summer months.

Smithfield Foods Contributes $250,000 to Richmond Afterschool Youth Learning Program
The Smithfield Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Smithfield Foods, Inc., has donated $250,000 to NextUp RVA, an afterschool system for middle school students in Richmond, Virginia which serves to support academic and social development in students through hands-on learning activities. This is the third year the company has contributed to NextUp RVA, and funding for this year will focus on the program’s Sports and Wellness track. Smithfield’s substantial contribution to NextUp RVA is part of the company’s recently announced charitable grant program that aims to address the unique needs of Smithfield’s local communities.

Smithfield Foods Makes Sizable Donation to Support STEAM Education in Rural Communities
The Smithfield Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Smithfield Foods, Inc., announced today a $350,000 donation to FUSE Studios, a high-quality and results-driven educational program piloted through Northwestern University that aims to transform science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) learning in schools across America. Smithfield’s substantial contribution to FUSE is part of the company’s recently announced charitable grant program that aims to address the unique needs of Smithfield’s local communities. The company’s donation will support 20 new FUSE Studios in participating school districts throughout the Midwest and North Carolina beginning in Fall 2020.

Smithfield Foods Donates More Than 40,000 Pounds of Protein to Three Square Food Bank; Eckrich Brand Provides Funds to Local Schools
Today, Smithfield Foods, Inc. and Albertsons joined forces to donate more than 40,000 pounds of protein to Three Square Food Bank. Smithfield’s contribution was part of the company’s 2019 Helping Hungry Homes® donation tour. Helping Hungry Homes® is Smithfield’s signature hunger-relief initiative focused on alleviating hunger and helping Americans become more food secure. The donation, equivalent to more than 169,000 servings, will help families fight hunger across Southern Nevada.

Smithfield Foods and Feed More Unveil New Tractor-Trailer to Expand Distribution in Rural Counties in Central Virginia
Smithfield Foods, Inc. and Feed More, a hunger-relief organization serving 34 cities and counties in Central Virginia, unveiled a new refrigerated tractor-trailer to support the organization’s efforts to improve product distribution to the eight localities in the southern region of their service area, where almost 25,000 individuals are food insecure. The tractor-trailer was funded through a $180,000 gift from the Smithfield Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Smithfield Foods.

Smithfield Foods Unveils New JROTC Facility at Smithfield High School
Today, Smithfield Foods, Inc., and Isle of Wight County Schools unveiled a new Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) fieldhouse for Smithfield High School’s award-winning JROTC program.

The campus addition provides JROTC participants and instructors with needed classroom space and equipment storage for drill and competition practice.

Smithfield Foods Supports Hurricane Florence Disaster-Relief Efforts in North Carolina
Following historic flooding and devastation in North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Florence, Smithfield Foods, Inc. is donating 480,000 servings of protein through its Helping Hungry Homes® initiative to two local food banks and has committed $100,000 to the American Red Cross to support ongoing disaster-relief and recovery efforts in the state.

The Smithfield Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Smithfield Foods, Inc., is pleased to announce a significant donation to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina to support its Wilmington Branch Location, serving Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, and Pender counties in southeastern North Carolina. The company presented a $100,000 donation while Smithfield employees volunteered, helping to pack meals for those served by the food bank in the Wilmington community.

Smithfield Foods Supports Mobile Food Pantry for Virginia Veterans
The Smithfield Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Smithfield Foods, Inc., has once again donated $50,000 to the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank to support its Veterans Mobile Food Pantry at the VA Medical Center in Hampton, Virginia. This is the second consecutive year of the partnership, following last year’s donation which helped increase the number of meals served to veterans by almost 50 percent.
