They do this by advocating for alternative medical practices suitable to the veteran’s needs, the recognition of diversity within the veteran community, and further accountability within the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Housing + Education = Success! How ACH Is Building Bright Futures for Children

AHC Inc. has been building quality affordable housing communities for low and very-low income families since 1975. Every time AHC builds a community, the non-profit not only provide roofs overhead – it helps families build strong foundations. Onsite year-round educational programs are available for children living at AHC’s properties in Arlington, including After-School literacy activities, one-on-one Teen Tutoring, College & Career Readiness, and a Summer Camp to prevent learning loss.

First Nation Elders Visit De Beers Mine to Taste the Fish

The event is one of the ways the company seeks to gain traditional knowledge as part of the mine’s environmental monitoring programme. A dozen lake trout were caught from Kirk Lake by elders from Behchoko and Lutsel K’e, who were accompanied by a member of the mine’s environment team. Kirk Lake is about 20km downstream from the mine site.

Labs Life: An Intern’s View of a Summer in HPE Research

Summer just ended and along with it my wonderful experience interning at Hewlett Packard Labs in Palo Alto. But thankfully I have some great memories to remember it by, from working with some really talented teammates to helping get local kids interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Being a Labs intern turned out to be much more fun than just sitting in a cube doing research. Our mentors and especially the intern coordinators arranged for us to have many opportunities for bonding with fellow interns and getting to know other researchers.

History Wins: Partners in Preservation Awards $2 Million in Grants for Main Street Projects

American Express, The National Trust for Historic Preservation and Main Street America announced today the winners of the Partners in Preservation: Main Streets. The 11 winning historic sites, determined by popular vote, will receive a total of $1.5 million in grants to fund their respective preservation projects. An additional $500,000 in grants was provided to the nonprofit partners of the 25 main street communities that participated in the program at the outset of the campaign to help raise awareness about their preservation needs.
