From Farm to Blockchain: Walmart Tracks Its Lettuce

When dozens of people across the country got sick from eating contaminated romaine lettuce this spring, Walmart did what many grocers would do: It cleared every shred off its shelves, just to be safe.

Agriculture: The Missing Piece of the Climate Puzzle

By 2050, countries around the world must find a way to produce more food than they have in the past 8,000 years to accommodate population growth—all while minimizing the agricultural sector’s contribution to climate change.

Symantec Makes Sustainable Food Choices

At Symantec's cafe in Mountain View, California Executive Chef Robert Sapirman purchases cage-free eggs and sustainable seafood, sources locally, and supports the small farmers doing things right. This October, Symantec hosts its first Less Meet Monday to reduce GHG emissions and show diners how delicious plant-based proteins can be.

The Zero-Waste Factory

Inside a huge Indiana warehouse, three people clad in white Tyvek jumpsuits, tall fireman boots, rubber gloves and safety glasses sifted through trash strewn across the floor. It was about 10,000 pounds of refuse, the contents of a compactor from Subaru of Indiana Automotive, the automaker’s U.S. assembly plant in Lafayette.

Society Is Counting on Us to Take Action on Sustainability and We Are Stepping Up

As world leaders came together in New York this week for the United Nations General Assembly and Climate Week, it is more important than ever that this convening yields significant action and partnership between business, governments and NGOs. Society is counting on those with leadership responsibility to take action on the big issues facing our global community— including climate change, poverty, obesity, water stress and damage to the world’s ecosystems.

Our Commitment to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Earlier this year, we announced our target to decrease greenhouse gas emissions 30 percent by 2030. We made this bold public commitment as part of our holistic approach to sustainability, to help people understand what Tyson Foods stands for with respect to environmental responsibility and because we recognize reducing greenhouse gas emissions is an important part of producing sustainable food and protecting our planet for future generations.

We’re very excited to announce that our greenhouse gas emissions target has been accepted by the Science Based Targets initiative, making us the first U.S. protein company in the food and beverage sector to receive such an approval.

Healthy Food Choices Are Also Good for the Planet

Our daily decisions about what we eat impact our environment, and food is one area where we each have the power to effect change. As Aramark Executive Chef in Symantec’s Mountain View café, it’s my job to feed roughly 1,000 people each day. At Aramark, we believe the consumer sets the table, so menus are developed using proprietary research and consumer insights. Our research shows people today are more knowledgeable than ever, in issues relating to health and wellness, and ethical wellbeing, and therefore more demanding of companies, to align with their concerns. This extends to the humane treatment of animals, local purchasing, and responsible sourcing.
