Application Extension Announced for “Power to Grow,” a U.S. Department of State Program to Support Micro-Enterprises in Central America

April 30, 2018 /3BL Media/ -- Today, the La Red de Innovacion e Impacto (the Innovation and Impact Network) announced the extension of the application deadline for the Power to Grow Innovation Challenge until May 14, 2018.

Power to Grow is a search to discover and reward non-profit organizations empowering micro-enterprises in Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, Belize, El Salvador, and Guatemala. Awardees will receive a prize of up to $43,000 to execute their proposed project, working in a partnership with a member organization of La Red towards a shared goal. Additionally, awardees will receive a comprehensive training and support package to improve their business skills.

The U.S. Department of State has funded the World Environment Center (WEC) and its partners, Le Groupe-conseil baastel ltée (Baastel), and RioSlum Studio, to select organizations who are accelerating business development and promoting sustainable economic growth in Latin America. The Program, La Red de Innovación e Impacto (La Red), was established in 2014 and is a collection of 30 innovative solutions from 11 countries in the region.

“Up to 95% of the companies in Central America are Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Their success is vital to the prosperity of communities and the region,” said Gwen Davidow, Vice President of Programs & Operations of the World Environment Center, “Given this, we have decided to extend the Power to Grow deadline to May 14, 2018. The quality of applicants thus far has been outstanding and we are excited to see the new ideas that come in over the next few weeks.”
