Kimberly-Clark North American Consumer Tissue Manufacturing is Now Powered by 100% Wind Energy
Maverick Creek, a 50,000-acre wind farm in Eden, Texas that is owned and operated by Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp., is now powering the production of many essential products like Cottonelle®, Viva®, Scott® and Kleenex® with more than 670,000 megawatt hours of renewable energy annually. The new wind farm also reduces Kimberly-Clark’s greenhouse gas emissions by more than 300,000 MTCO2e, which is equivalent to emissions from more than 71,000 passenger vehicles driven for one year.

- 100% of pulp is sourced from responsibly managed forests
- 100% of fiber suppliers are Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®)-certified
- 100% of tissue manufacturing is powered by wind energy, off-setting 100% purchased electricity with power generated by U.S. wind farms
“Renewable energy projects like Maverick Creek are one of the ways Kimberly-Clark is delivering on its commitment to addressing climate change and reducing greenhouse gases across its operations,” says Bill Cummings, Senior Energy Supply Leader at Kimberly-Clark. “The Maverick Creek Wind Project will deliver six percent of the company’s target for global GHG emissions reductions.”
This virtual wind power purchasing agreement would increase Kimberly-Clark’s annual green power usage up to more than 1,770,000,000 KWh. This increase would likely put Kimberly-Clark in the top 10 of wind power purchasers among companies such as Apple and Microsoft, according to the January 2021 EPA Green Power Partnership National Top 100 list.
Maverick Creek broke ground in November of 2019 and was fully operational in April 2021.
