Legg Mason has demonstrated a strong commitment to maintaining the highest ethical standards through the years, as demonstrated by our “No Chalk”* culture and recognition for maintaining outstanding compliance programs.

Legg Mason is extremely proud of our most recent acknowledgement: earning the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 37001 Anti-Bribery Management Systems Certificate from PECB North America.

The ISO 37001 is the first certifiable global anti-bribery standard, and Legg Mason is the first corporation to be awarded the certificate.

PECB North America’s review of Legg Mason focused on our program structure, standards, and strong leadership.

Ted Becker, Director of Global Compliance, shared these comments on the certification: “Legg Mason is known for our integrity. This ISO certification reflects our No Chalk* culture and will further enhance our reputation with investors, intermediaries, and regulators.”

Legg Mason Compliance Director, Pia Ongteco McLaine, was featured in PECB Insights to talk about compliance at Legg Mason, the ISO 37001 certification, and how we are preparing for future regulations.

*As described in Legg Mason’s Code of Conduct, “No Chalk” refers to “no chalk on your shoes” and is a term we have used for many years as a metaphor for ethical behavior — like an athlete competing on a playing field, Legg Mason wants all employees to stay well within the boundary lines for ethical behavior, so we have “no chalk on your shoes.”
