March 11, 2016 /3BL Media/ - National Grid has been named as a World’s Most Ethical Company for 2016 for a sixth time.

The accolade has been awarded by the Ethisphere Institute, the global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices, and recognises organisations which foster a culture of ethics and transparency at every level of the company.

National Grid has received the award five times before for its ethics and compliance programme and is one of 130 named this year across 21 countries, 54 industry sectors and five continents.

National Grid VP for Group Assurance, Cheryl Young said: “This distinction once again shows that we have made great strides in building ethics into our corporate culture. Every year the bar gets raised and we continue to drive our programme towards best in class. With strong leadership, we have been able to embed ethics into the fabric of everything we do.”

Ethisphere’s Chief Executive Officer Timothy Erblich said: “Companies rely on Ethisphere to continually raise and measure the standards of corporate behaviour. Those that demonstrate leadership in areas like citizenship, integrity and transparency create more value for their investors, communities, customers and employees, thus solidifying a sustainable business advantage. Congratulations to everyone at National Grid for being recognised as a World’s Most Ethical Company.”

The World’s Most Ethical Companies® programme honours companies which  excel in three areas: promoting ethical business standards and practices internally; enabling managers and employees to make good choices; and, shaping future industry standards by introducing tomorrow’s best practices today. Recognised businesses have also historically outperformed others financially, demonstrating the connection between good ethical practices and performance that’s valued in the marketplace.
