GAITHERSBURG, Md., November 10, 2016 /3BL Media/ - Sodexo, world leader in Quality of Life Services, helps communities succeed by focusing on the sustainability of its supply chain from farm to fork. The global facilities management and food services provider, which operates locally within each community to purchase food and produce from thousands of local suppliers, farms, bakeries and dairy farms announced today that it spent more than $600 million on local sourcing during FY 2015 in North America, to include $36 million procuring goods from over 1,400 local farmers and co-ops.

With Sodexo serving more than 9,000 client sites across the U.S. and Canada the scale and scope of its operations allow the organization to make a significant difference in sustainability through purchasing foods locally, sourcing responsibly grown and raised food products and reducing carbon emissions. In 2015 the company purchased 3.2 million pounds of fair trade coffee, 16.9 million pounds of sustainably sourced seafood and 15.4 million eggs from cage-free hens.

“Sodexo’s contribution to a sustainable supply chain makes an important difference in part by setting high standards for the hundreds of suppliers that help us serve more than 15 million customers daily,” said Ted Monk, vice president, sustainability and corporate responsibility, Sodexo. “At every step of the way from farm to fork, we exercise an opportunity to strengthen local communities, promote healthy diets, and protect our environment.”

The results of the organization’s sustainability efforts are detailed in an infographic released today titled “Harnessing Size and Scale.” It tells the story of how Sodexo uses its scale to make a positive impact within its local communities.

Sodexo delivers more than 100 services across North America that enhance organizational performance, contribute to local communities and improve quality of life. The Fortune Global 500 company is a leader in delivering sustainable, integrated facilities management and foodservice operations.
