Vaccine Volunteers Combating COVID in our Community

45 volunteers. 31 clinics assisted. 11,000+ community members vaccinated.
In mid-March, National Grid joined forces with the city of Worcester, Massachusetts to help aid vaccination efforts for some of New England's most crucial at-risk COVID residents.
Working with the city’s public health department, 45 National Grid volunteers helped transport vaccines to various locations, assisted with registrations, conducted data entry, and made sure vaccine recipients seamlessly navigated between clinic stations. National Grid provided use of its Community Van throughout the project’s duration, which ended in mid-May.
"Playing a role at one of Worcester’s roving vaccine clinics was one of the most meaningful volunteering events I have participated in,” said Gary Dionne, director of workforce planning. “Throughout the pandemic, so many of us wanted to find ways to help others, yet there was so little we could do as individuals. Having the opportunity to support the underserved communities so close to where I live was very meaningful. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been able to meet and help so many people at the clinic I supported."
At National Grid, our company values of “Do the Right Thing” “Find a Better Way” and “Make it Happen” are at the core of all that we do. They guide not only how we run our business but also how we show up in our communities. In this instance, 45 employees were able to act on each of those principles through this single undertaking.
We are so thankful to the city of Worcester for allowing National Grid to lend a helping hand, and to our employees who have made this another proud moment in the communities that we serve.
