Is Virgin Paper Good for the Environment?

Consumers today have numerous paper options, including paper that’s recycled or sustainably sourced from certified forests.

When it comes to paper, what qualifies as a
sustainable option can mean different things to
different people. Some consumers prefer a product
that contains high levels of post-consumer recycled
material. Reusing the wood fiber helps extend the life
of this valuable resource, while saving landfill space.
For others, the social, environmental and economic
requirements of third-party forest certification like the
Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) assure responsible forest management practices were followed. To these consumers, independent certificate on is the best way to ensure the world’s forests remain for generations to come.

In addition to recycled fiber, Domtar maintains that internationally-recognized third-party certification like FSC ensures virgin material is an environmentally sound option – an opinion shared by leading environmental organizations and sustainability-focused nonprofits. The video explains how both recycled and certified virgin paper have a place in today’s sustainable office.
