CAMPAIGN: Making Apparel Better

Gildan, in partnership with the Batey Relief Alliance (BRA), organized its second “Blindness Prevention” program for the community of San Pedro de Macoris, San Antonio de Guerra and other areas of eastern Dominican Republic.  The event took place over four consecutive days providing 540 patients free ophthalmological consultations and prescription lenses.

Over 29 ophthalmologists from the Optometrists Volunteers for Humanity Service visiting from the School of Optometry of New England in the U.S. provided free eye care to people with visual problems who normally might not have access to or the financial means to attain these services.

Gildan is pleased to support initiatives like this one, understanding that both prevention and timely treatment can reduce the chances of blindness, the access to prescription glasses helps increase opportunities for employment, and improves children’s ability to read and learn.
