2012 VolunteerMatch Corporate Volunteer Awards: A Look at Finalist Hagerty Insu…

On May 17, 2012, winners of the 2012 VolunteerMatch Corporate Volunteer Awards will be announced at our annual VolunteerMatch Client Summit in San Francisco, CA.

In this series of posts, we’ll introduce you to the facts and folks behind the ten most effective employee volunteer programs in our family of corporate clients compared against our 2011 benchmarks.

VolunteerMatch congratulates Hagerty Insurance for its nomination for Employee Volunteer Program of the Year (Small-Medium Size Business).

Hagerty Insurance runs an excellent volunteer program, called Hagerty Cares. Hagerty Cares allows employees sixteen hours paid time for community service, as well as the resources to help employees find volunteer opportunities. In 2011, Hagerty Cares recorded 4,725 volunteer hours, a 91% user rate, and $5,000 in employee donations towards local nonprofits in addition to the company’s $150,000 in donations.

Its nonprofit partners are The American Cancer Society, Cherryland Humane Society, The Father Fred Foundation, Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy, Abbas House, Michigan Land Use Institute, Old Town Playhouse, and the Traverse Bay YMCA.

Other 2011 highlights of Hagerty Cares include:

  • In partnership with Bill Marsh Auto Group, Hagerty Cares participated in a unique event called Lunch on the Run, which delivered lunches to area businesses. Over 2,400 lunches were created and sales generated $6,861.82 to benefit the women’s cancer fund at Munson Medical Center. Hagerty not only participated with employee volunteers but purchased a lunch for each call center employee as a “thank you” for a successful summer season.
  • In its third year, Hagerty Cares 12 Days of Giving campaign donated over $75,000 in gifts and services to those in need for the holiday season. Each of its core partner nonprofit organizations participated in an activity and employees took part in everything from trail grooming to adopting families for Christmas. It’s Hagerty Cares’ largest and most successful event each year.
  • Hagerty Cares made a distinct effort to provide volunteer support to the variety of festivals that boost our economy and quality of life in the region. In 2011 it supported the National Cherry Festival, Traverse City Film Festival, Interlochen Summer Arts Festival, Cherry Roubaix, and the North American VASA.

We commend Hagerty for its service in its community and for facilitating an excellent volunteer program!

Stay tuned for more finalist profiles in the coming weeks, and announcement of the winners on May 17, 2012 during the 2012 VolunteerMatch Client Summit.
