2013 BNSF Special Concludes in San Bernardino, Calif.
The BNSF Special concluded its 2013 three-week tour in San Bernardino after transporting more than 10,000 employees, retirees, family members and special guests on memorable train rides.
The BNSF Special always includes a focus on community. This year, more than 1,600 kids who participate in Boys & Girls Clubs in five communities were treated to rides. For many of the children, the BNSF Special provides their first opportunity to ride a train. The BNSF Railway Foundation also presented six grants to youth organizations along the way.
Joe Faust, director, Public Affairs, who coordinates the annual tour, said, "The 2013 BNSF Special was exceptional. We surpassed 10,000 guests, and our employees, their families, along with special guests truly enjoyed a memorable experience. Our operations teams throughout the trip did a fantastic job of accommodating our guests while still maintaining the successful daily operations of the company."
This year’s BNSF Special kicked off June 6 at Gallup, N.M., and traveled nearly 8,300 miles across New Mexico, Arizona and California, stopping for rides in 11 cities. Faust said the last time the BNSF Special traveled through this area was in 2006.
