2015 Department of Defense Warrior Games Demonstrates How the Power of Sport Can Put Wounded Warriors on Path to Recovery
As a sponsor for sixth year, Deloitte continues commitment to help wounded warriors recover through competition and teamwork
WASHINGTON, June 13, 2015 /3BL Media/ – On Friday, June 19, the 2015 Department of Defense (DoD) Warrior Games will officially kick off at the U.S. Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia. Approximately 250 wounded, ill, and injured service members and veterans will participate in eight adaptive sports: archery, cycling, field, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, track, and wheelchair basketball.
Two Deloitte employees, wounded veterans themselves, will compete for the U.S. Army and U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) teams. Deloitte serves as a platinum sponsor of the games and is providing 20 employee volunteers, helping the U.S. Marine Corps coordinate the competitions and lead teams of community volunteers.

The two Deloitte employees competing in the 2015 DoD Warrior Games are:
Will Reynolds, U.S. Army veteran and a member of Team Army, is a senior consultant for Deloitte Consulting LLP in the Federal Government Services practice. Reynolds has been an adaptive sports participant since 2005 and was the first Deloitte employee to participate in the games. He was wounded in 2004 during combat in Iraq and went through two years of treatment and 23 surgeries. Reynolds competes in cycling and track
"I've always been an athlete and participation in adaptive sports not only satisfies that itch to compete but also keeps me connected to the veteran community,” said Reynolds.
Sean Walsh, U.S. Army veteran and a member of Team SOCOM, is a senior consultant for Deloitte Consulting LLP in the Federal Government Services practice. This is Walsh’s first time competing – he competes in cycling, track and swimming. A multisport athlete, Walsh is also a Type 1 diabetic, resulting from an illness he developed while serving overseas.
“Being on a team has always been a part of who I am and I can’t think of a better way to represent and support not just my SOCOM teammates but all of the competitors who have given so much to our country,” said Walsh.
