35,000 Attend HESTEC Event in Edinburg, Texas
Event sponsored by Time Warner Cable
Time Warner Cable was a silver sponsor of this year’s Hispanic Engineering Science and Technology (HESTEC) Week held on the campus of the University of Texas – Pan American, October 5-11. This year marked the 13th year that the university hosted this event which draws 35,000 people annually. HESTEC week was created to address the critical shortage of scientists and engineers in the U.S., and it fills an important gap in building awareness of STEM fields with Hispanic students in the Rio Grande Valley.
Each day of the conference focused on a specific targeted audience. Key highlights of the event included distribution of STEM Education: A Bridge for Latinos to Opportunity and Success, a study funded by TWC’s Research Program on Digital Communications; a visible speaking opportunity during the conference on Latina Day for Jeannette Castaneda, TWC Public Relations Manager; and a career recruiting expo leveraged by Magy Lape and the South Texas Human Resources team.
