Action Team Captains Throw “Prom” for Residents of Local Senior Community
Decked out in party hats, Action Team Captains from a high school in The Woodlands, Texas put on a “prom” for the residents of a local senior home.
The Action Team from iSchool Montgomery gave the Woodside Manor Senior Apartment community a festive look with bright Hawaiian-themed decorations. Then they went room to room to personally invite each resident to the celebration, giving each a Hawaiian lei to wear.
The group danced the afternoon away to upbeat music, and then participated in various competitions including limbo and hula hoop. Those confined to wheelchairs were not excluded; Action Team Captains made sure to wheel them around to enjoy the festivities. Later in the afternoon, the volunteers served cake and punch.
The event left a lasting mark on not only the residents of Woodside Manor, but also on the high school students who gave up their afternoon to volunteer their time to put smiles on others faces.
“So many times in life, we forget about the important things. This experience has made me realize that family is all that matters, and we should cherish it,” said iSchool 11th grader and Action Team Captain Destini Porter.
Fellow captain and 12th grader Ashley Aleman referred to the event as a “life-changing experience.”
