All-Star Evan Longoria goes yard for Literacy
Star third baseman hits it out of the park for summer reading program
All-Star third baseman Evan Longoria has been a fixture with the Tampa Bay Rays since 2008 when as a rookie he helped the club reach its first World Series.
Over his first 10 big-league seasons, Longoria has accumulated a Rookie of the Year Award (2008), three All-Star appearances, two Gold Glove Awards and a Silver Slugger Award. In short, the Rays franchise leader in home runs and RBIs has done significant work to help his club succeed on the field.
And Longoria does his part off the field, as well. In addition to his ongoing support of Players Trust programs such as Buses for Baseball and City Clinics, “Longo” is a part of the Ray’s charitable program Reading with the Rays. The program, which is open to all students in grades K-12 in various counties throughout Florida, helps keep reading fun for kids – with a fun incentive. Kids who read 24 hours during the summer months receive two tickets to a Rays game.
