Anne Simpson, Franklin Templeton Global Head of Sustainability, Joined Ceres Panel to Discuss SEC Climate Disclosure Rule
Anne Simpson, Franklin Templeton Global Head of Sustainability, participated in a recent panel hosted by Ceres, a nonprofit organization working with the most influential capital market leaders to solve the world’s greatest sustainability challenges.
The live virtual meeting on April 12, 2022, featured U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler and other sustainability leaders to discuss the SEC’s new proposed rule, Enhancement and Standardization of Climate-Related Disclosures for Investors.
This discussion followed the SEC’s announcement in March 2022 proposing a rule requiring climate disclosures from all U.S. registered public companies in response to increasing investor demand.
Simpson was among a group of leaders who participated in the discussion. Her remarks included: “Having these standardized reporting guidelines will actually make a huge difference for companies. One, it’s going to save them money; secondly, it’s going to give them clarity on what to focus on; and thirdly, the evidence shows it’s going to improve their cost of capital. So, this is necessary for investors but it’s also going to be a real benefit for companies.”
The SEC comment period for the proposed rule is open until May 20, 2022.
