NEWARK, Del., July 23, 2024 /3BL/ - Delmarva Power is powering local communities in ways that go beyond reliable energy service through environmental stewardship and resiliency grants for nonprofits and municipalities throughout the company’s service area in Delaware and Maryland. The company’s Sustainable Communities Grant Program, which is facilitated by the Delaware Nature Society (DelNature), has provided more than $235,000 in grants to fund sustainability projects across Delaware and Maryland since 2020. The grant application is now open through August 30, 2024.

“Delmarva Power is not only committed to operating in an environmentally responsible way but also remaining a leader in the communities we serve to address resiliency and environmental challenges,” said Marcus Beal, director of External Affairs at Delmarva Power. “As we continue to deliver more than energy to our customers, this initiative is creating sustainable communities and allowing these nonprofits and towns to make a positive impact in the places we live, work and play, one project at a time.”

The 2024 program provides $35,000 in grants, up to $10,000 each, for projects focusing on open space preservation, improvements to parks and recreation resources and innovative approaches to environmental conservation with a focus on providing a safe and reliable resource for a community during a time of emergency, such as severe weather. The program supports the company’s commitment to projects that provide energy empowerment through sustainability, environmental, open space and reliability initiatives.

“We are excited to once again partner with Delmarva Power on the Sustainable Communities Grant Program,” said Jen Adkins, executive director at DelNature. “We love seeing each project come to life through this program and the impact it makes on each individual community. We are thankful to Delmarva Power for being a dedicated community partner in this effort.”

Municipalities, recreational authorities and nonprofits in the Delmarva Power service area can apply for a Sustainable Communities grant each year. A committee with representatives from Delmarva Power and DelNature reviews each application and selects the projects to receive funding.

For Delmarva Power, and its parent company Exelon, diversity, equity and inclusion is a core foundational value both in the workplace and in outreach to the people it serves. The company strongly encourages underrepresented communities to apply for the Sustainable Communities grant.
