Institut Pasteur is a non-profit private foundation dedicated, since 1889, to research, public health and teaching. According to the humanist ideals of Louis Pasteur, the institute stands at the forefront of innovative research against infectious diseases. Ten scientists of Institut Pasteur won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, the most recent one for the discovery of human immunodeficiency virus. Institut Pasteur in Paris is the center of an international network of 32 institutes located on every continent.

Amgen Scholars at Institut Pasteur will have the opportunity to participate in an eight-week intensive research experience in one of the 120 laboratories on the multidisciplinary Paris campus. Each scholar works with a lab-mentor (a postdoctoral fellow, a senior graduate student or a staff scientist) and the Head of Unit on an individual project as part of the research performed by the host-lab. The Amgen Scholars program offers a first hands-on research experience in a variety of scientific fields, covering Molecular and Cellular Biology, Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Structural Biology, Virology, Parasitology, Mycology, Epidemiology, Imaging, Neurosciences, and Developmental Biology.

Scholars will interact with and receive guidance from faculty and administrative mentors. In addition to hands-on laboratory activities, the program includes scientific seminars, advices on scientific communication and career development. The program will end with poster presentations on the conducted research projects, followed by a wine-and-cheese party for all participants and their mentors. Scholars will also attend the annual symposium held in Cambridge (UK) in early September.

Paris is one of Europe's most culturally diverse and artistically rich cities, offering a large variety of social programs (museums, sight-seeing etc.). Amgen Scholars will be offered housing in a student residence in Paris with easy access to Institut Pasteur.

Interested students from across Europe are invited to visit the Program website at Institut Pasteur for further details.
