MIT has long been at the forefront of undergraduate research programming and is proud to partner with the Amgen Foundation on this initiative.
MIT has a 45-year history of engaging undergraduates in research through an established Institute-wide program -- Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP). Almost seventy departments, laboratories and centers sponsor undergraduate research projects.
Students participating in the MIT Amgen Scholars program will have the opportunity to conduct research under the supervision of some of the world's foremost scholars and leading researchers, potentially including Nobel Laureates, members of the National Academies of Science and Engineering, a Charles Stark Draper Prize winner, Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigators and Institute Professors -- the highest academic honor awarded to a MIT faculty member.
In addition to working alongside faculty and other researchers on innovative projects, students will have the opportunity to interact with faculty mentors, graduate students and fellow undergraduates while participating in research workshops, lectures and seminars, as well as other group activities designed to foster a sense of community among participants.
Participating faculty mentors will be drawn from the following MIT departments, laboratories and centers: Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Brain & Cognitive Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, the Harvard/MIT Division of Health Sciences & Technology, the Center for Environmental Health Sciences, the Broad Institute, the Picower Institute for Learning and Memory, the Simons Center for Social Brain and the Whitehead Institute's faculty.
