Aramark Honored With American Heart Association Breakthrough Award
Aramark was the recipient of the American Heart Association's Breakthrough Award, presented by American Heart Association CEO Nancy Brown for the joint Healthy for Life® 20 By 20 initiative. This collaborative initiative leverages the science and research knowledge of the Heart Association and the culinary expertise, reach and scale of Aramark to accomplish a shared goal to improve the health of Americans by 2020.
Healthy for Life® 20 By 20, a five year initiative, introduces industry leading menu commitments by reducing calories, saturated fat and sodium levels 20 percent, and increasing fruits, vegetables and whole grains 20 percent. Changes will impact more than 2 billion meals that Aramark serves annually at thousands of schools and universities, business, hospitals, sports and entertainment venues, parks and other destinations, with an expected impact of 10 billion meals by 2020.
The first year of the initiative showed significant progress, with Aramark achieving an 8 percent reduction in calories, sodium and saturated fats, and increasing fruits, vegetables and whole grains across the menus it serves in colleges and universities, hospital cafes and workplace locations.
