Port Angeles, Wash., July 31 2013 /3BL Media/ – The annual Ride the Hurricane biking event will be greener than ever thanks to the environmental commitment of co-sponsor- ARAMARK Parks and Destinations. This recreational ride allows cyclists to bike along the famed Olympic National Park Hurricane Ridge Road, free of all vehicles from 7a.m. – noon. As a part of ARAMARK’s commitment to sustainability, all food scraps and service ware for the snacks and beverages served to participants at the Aug. 4 event will either be composted or recycled.
“We at ARAMARK Parks and Destinations pride ourselves on our environmental stewardship and sustainable efforts at Lake Crescent Lodge, Hurricane Ridge, Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort and Log Cabin Resort in Olympic National Park,” says David Sloma, VP of Operations. “Ride the Hurricane is another opportunity for us to be good stewards and to encourage guests to think about what they can do to minimize their environmental footprints.”
This year, Ride the Hurricane participants will receive orange slices and non-wrapped cookies as snacks with compostable napkins. Water will be served at refill stations opposed to individual bottles. Gatorade® and chocolate milk will be served in low-waste containers or in corn-based compostable cups. In addition, recycle and composting bins will be provided with onsite signage to educate and encourage riders to participate.
ARAMARK Parks and Destinations’ has a deep commitment to sustainability. ARAMARK operations at Lake Crescent Lodge and Hurricane Ridge have both received ISO 14004:2004 certification for their environmental management systems and efforts. Lake Crescent Lodge was also recently awarded TripAdvisor’s Bronze Level GreenLeader designation. The sites diverted nearly 60 percent of its waste from landfills last year. This included almost 40,000 lbs of recyclables and more than 18,000 lbs of waste being composted. The concessioner has reduced waste in unique ways, such as eliminating more than two tons of glass waste by replacing bottled beer with taps.
700 riders will have the unique opportunity to ride 24 or 36 miles round trip along the famed Olympic National Park Hurricane Ridge Road.

ARAMARK Parks and Destinations will provide concessions at the Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center at the top of Hurricane Ridge. Three additional aid stations will be available along the route, provided by event organizers. To register for the event visit: http://business.portangeles.org/events/details/ride-the-hurricane-2773
