Arbor Day Foundation Rang The Nasdaq Stock Market Opening Bell to Celebrate Earth Day
LINCOLN, Neb., April 22, 2015 /3BL Media/ — The Arbor Day Foundation visited the Nasdaq Market Site in Times Square this morning in celebration of Earth Day and calling attention to the importance of trees.
Dan Lambe, President of the Arbor Day Foundation and Michael Hartofilis, Vice President and co-founder of Greenlight Energy rang the opening bell. The New York Stock Exchange’s (NYSE) opening and closing bells mark the beginning and the end of each trading day. Many consider the act of ringing the bells to be an honor and a symbol of a lifetime of achievement.
“This is a week to celebrate the Earth and its resources, and trees are a remarkable, renewable resource from which we all benefit,” stated Lambe. “We’re grateful for the opportunity today to call attention to why trees are important in helping to address complex issues across the country and around the globe.”
Trees can be assets to a community when properly planted and maintained. They help to improve the visual appeal of a neighborhood or shopping district, increase property values, reduce home cooling costs, remove air pollutants, and provide wildlife habitat, among many other benefits.
