Centennial, Colo. - In the fall of 2015, global technology company Arrow Electronics helped launch the first “DigiTruck” in Africa. The self-sustainable mobile computer lab brought technology and internet access to children living largely off the grid in the Tuleeni Orphans Home, located on the remote slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

When the DigiTruck packs up and deploys to a new location in Tanzania, the children of Tuleeni will be left with a permanent computer lab that Arrow outfitted with computers, 100 tablets and internet access for the next two years. In addition to the permanent lab, Arrow also donated money to build a new playground on the school’s grounds.

Arrow employees around the globe were so inspired by the children of Tuleeni and orphanage director Mandy Stein, they started a scholarship fund to help more children access the orphanage’s educational resources. The scholarship program, which currently supports five Tuleeni orphans, is run by the company’s dedicated Corporate Social Responsibility team.

“Your generosity is beyond words,” said Mandy Stein, director of the Tuleeni Orphanage, in an email to Arrow employees. “You made this dream a reality, and I only wish you all could see in person all that you have done—for an entire community and for a group of children who will be forever grateful for the chance you have given them.”

“Five years out, we hope these kids will have a chance to attend universities and dramatically improve their futures,” said Joe Verrengia, Arrow’s global director of Corporate Social Responsibility. “It’s been incredible to watch Arrow employees around the world get so invested with the children of Tuleeni—their generosity is truly making a difference and helping to guide the next generation of innovators forward.”
